Although not an exact formula but in racecar engineering circles it is generally accepted that a savings of 1lb in rotational unsprung mass (wheels, tires, brake rotors, etc) is equal to 10lbs on the car. There is you 10:1 ratio. I am currently in the process of taking every ounce out of my 92 in preparing it as a GT race car. It is astounding how much weight the car has in it.

Weight is weight, as we all know. Inertial effects will occur when you talk about rotational weight, and unsprung weight affects a car's handling much differently than sprung weight. Is that what you mean by "...savings of 1lb in rotational unsprung mass (wheels, tires, brake rotors, etc) is equal to 10lbs on the car..."?

Drag can be used to generate a down force, which can aid traction just as weight would, but without increasing momentum. This type of "weight" can be very desirable.

I would never pull the A/C (been there, done that) or a stereo out of a perfectly good automobile. A realistic goal might be a 500 lb reduction. I've been thinking about Goody's earlier tip #17:

"17. Remove passenger seat, dead weight both full or empty. "

That and a good racing seat to replace my aging stock sport seat might just be 400 lbs.....almost there..."fix-a-flat"!. Only 80 lbs to go!

George

Either you misunderstood what they said, or you aren't talking to competent engineers.

The Corsa system is within a couple of pounds of OEM...I weighed both.

My spare is out 100% of the time except for long trips...that is near 35 pounds.

I added an aftermarket seat (Forza-bolted in) and lost ~10 as well as switching to a manual seat rail-now I've got a Sparco PRO 2000 for another 5 pound loss.

I will be selling the Forza...it bolts in with their mount...let me know if interested.

Heck I think most people would do good just to clean out their cars! :)

Last weigh in was 3175 with no gas. :D

This was discussed indepth on a thread a few months back.

1. Loose the glass and install lexan windows.
2. Carbon fiber hood.
3. Make sure lights are plastic and not glass.
4. Remove radio and all speakers.
5. Remove power seats and install manual seat tracks and aftermarket seats.
6. Take out mass back carpet and install lightweight carpeting.
7. Use plastic roof panel instead of solid.
8. Swap out flywheel/clutch/torque converter assy as necessary for lighter gear.
9. Remove 13" brakes and put 12" stuff on.
10. Remove A/C system.
11. Remove rear package tray cover.
12. Lose weight yourself......
13. Skinny fronts and draglite rear wheels.
14. Remove front swaybar and go to smallest rear bar.
15. Remove resonator and mufflers and install straight pipe.
16. Find an all aluminum block to install.
17. Remove passenger seat, dead weight both full or empty. :D

Hey big girls need lovin too! Leave the weight of the car and just use the weight as an excuse to put more power into your car. But seriously, relocate the battery to the rear of the car for better weight transfer, ditch the mufflers, cats, spare tire, jack, air pump, etc.

How did the seat look? How about the motorized adjustments - can they stay?
I was thinking of replacing the factory seats if I could get something nice.

Thanks

The sliders that you buy from Corbeau are only for and aft adjustment. No other adjustments...enough for me!

The Forza is a bolt in while the Sparco seat required 6 holes to be drilled into the sliders and bracket-none into the car.

I love that seat!
