Hey guys, I'm currently running some decent 60' with a best of 1.88sec. So far I haven't had any traction problems if I do a good burnout before hand. I'm running 285/17 Nitto 555's(no R) with a 1500 stall, and 2.59's. All I do is slam the gas and go.
I'm upping the rear end to a 3.45 this winter and I'm also planning on upping the stall to 2500. My question is what will I have to do to keep traction with this new setup. I have a feeling it's going to be a whole new car and I'm not going to know what to do about it.
Seriously though its hard to tell until you try it out. It might hook just as good as it does now or it could blow the tires away into smoke. You can try things like longer burnouts, shorter burnouts, lowering the tire pressure, running with a full tank of gas. All sorts of things.
LOL   that's a good one. Is there some point that I'm going to need slicks to keep a decent 60'. I'm going to have practice "rolling" into the throttle. I have a very binary driving habbit, it's either on or off.
Funny you should post this...I just got my new set-up and picked the car up last Friday....I now have a rebuilt tranny ( good to 500 hp), trango shift kit and new TCI converter with a 2600 stall....
I went to the track on Wed. night for a little test n' tune... my first launch was from 1500 rpm and I went a grand total of 4 feet while my speedo read 70 mph.. ...went up in smoke...in all fainess I was the first pair to run so the track was cool and no rubber laid down yet...
My next three runs were better...I launched from idle and had good 60' time of 1.89, 1.90 and 1.91....btw, I have 3:73 gears as well....I'm running Sumitomo 315's out back that are a month old....my previous best 60' time was 1.93...the track I ran at in Orlando is known as the "Ice Rink" because it is so slippery....I'm looking forward to seing what happens at the Challenge on Saturday in Bradenton which is the best hooking track in the State... :D ..
This set-up is a bit too strong for street tires but until I get the Dana 44 in I just have to live with it...the spin is what saves my 36 for now...fwiw, your 1.88 time for 60' is very, very good on street tires...I don't think you're gonna get too much lower on street tires....
When you get the Dana 44 in this winter and up the stall AND run some stickies out back you should see much lower 60's and ET's.... good luck
So does this mean I can leave my spare tire in the car when I go to the track? Sweet, increasing traction and driving convience at the same time!
