You might check with Contemporary Corvette (link on my site, see sig. below) on the chassis & engine as they vend new parts and manage a large Vette bone yard.
their near 50-50 weight distribution is great because it helps both braking and handling.
Like anything else, they have their downfalls. There a "corvette tax" on a lot of things like exhuast, headers ect. It seems halfshafts are their weak link. after them, they seem to be relativly indestructable blow 500hp.
I think a blown car is a much better choice for an auto X car unless you really know what your doing. the cam and turbos and powerband have to be set up PERFECTLY or else life will be poopiety. Youll get power when u dont want it and dont have have it when you want it. Both will add weight up front and lots of heat.
AutoX is really about brakes, drive and handling- not in that order. When you get really competative, its power. Look around. all the lower class winners are neons and integras with good drivers.
A set of coil overs, 315's, C5 brake upgrade and a basic head and cam package with some bolt ons and the only think holding you back is driving skill. Can you do coil overs on vettes BTW? anyone?
skidpad ratings are worthless, twisties between the cone say more- but still varry between drivers.
Ohh yea, if your not looking to drop tons of money, an F-body or late model cobra with IRS is another GREAT choice.
Supras are AMAZING but price comes into play with them. RX7's, ZR1 all come to mind fairly quick. Some autoX tires on an of those cars and your good to go. Start adding power and suspension mods and its damn hard to top.
