Default Confused code references

My baby is running rough, missing, backfiring, generally acting like a bad little girl. Only code showing is a 12, and my two sources for this each have a different story to tell. One says vaccum leak (wonder where that would be) and one says no contact with the distributer (recently rebuilt). I had a rebuilt distributer put it recently trying to fix a similar problem. Any ideas?
Also, I can't seen to find floor jacks in this little town that will fit under my 'vette - any suggestions? :banghead:

Code 12 is not a problem. From the sounds of things, I begin by checking the firing order... Let us know how that goes before we go any farther. :smash:

Wiring seems ok - this problem doesn't happen when the engine is stone cold, like when the coolant is below 80, and doesn't seem to happen when the rpm is above about 3500. Pushing the pedal coming away from a traffic light is a different story. The cap backfires, coughs, runs very rich and generally makes me think rude thoughs. Its a bit rough trying to get underway in traffic with some slow clunk in front of me. The miss isn't a regular thing that makes drivng at partial throttle rather miserable. If I can fiure a way to get the car in the garage by moving a ton of the wife's stuff (and my mothers - we take care of her in her old age) and gettig the car in the ari safely enough to get under it I'll check the connectins to the distributer tomorrow.
