Scaning software....Can I download somewhere?
I just got a new laptop PC, and I wanted to know if there is a place to get software to be able to look at my car with...You know like the scaner's you can buy to check out everything your car is doing.....and where to get a cable to plug intom my PC and then into the car...

agent86, i can easily get the rs232 connector but what where do i buy a ALDL Connector? i'm hoping to make a plug up and download the software to my laptop and learn something about my 91 vert :hat thanks in adavance and i dont mean to hijack this post - hopefully the info will help us all.....

This gives you an idea on what to fabricate to get the job done. It ain't fancy but it works. I just tried it today with datamaster and it works fine aswell.

How do I know what to download on Moates site....there is alot of things there to download... :confused:

To all that replied....MANY THANKS....I have the same question...I have an L-98...will this program work....I have the the 165ECM.....I am trying to figure the plug thing out too....man do I feel stupid....

AKMcables says I need a cable adaptor for my new Dell. I dont have the correct port for the cable. This confusing but with a bit of effort, worthwhile. Im really glad you started this!! The download looks like it will do the job Ive been looking for.

Spankyellow and apollo30346 go to default settings then move cursor down to ecm type. Change ecm type by using arrow right . When it comes time to plug your cable in you will have to go back to default settings and switch from offline to diagnostic mode. You will also have to check to see if the right port is selected :cheers:

Agent86 I just downloaded the datamaster software. Took about 15 minutes on my dialup service. Will this do anything different than the Moates download? The Moates looks like it does everything I need. I dont plan on burning chips or getting too involved. Just want to get info before & after mods . Maybe pass info to the chip burner . Thanks again. Can you get online with your shoephone? :D

anyone know where i can get a 232 connector to complete my (DIY) cable. i had hoped to cut one off an old serial device but it didn't work out. i tried Radio Shack with no luck.
