Default GMParts Direct... follow up.

Well, my parts arrive today. Two weeks to the day after I mailed my check to them. You may remember that I could not get my credit card to work, even while on the phone with my CC bank to verify I WAS using proper mailing info.

Good news is that the package arrived today instead of next Monday as was indicated by the tracking page for DHL.

Bad news... the main part in my order is WRONG. :mad Even though I went to my local dealer & verified the part number for an oil temp sensor on my 1990 L98. No idea for what year I have but I guess it will be for sale on here as I doubt I can return it.

If your oil temp sending unit has a single brass male spade connection like you would find on a 1950 Buick, I've got a brand spankin new one for you.

Probably too late to call Superior today...

Sounds like they sent a pressure sender.

No, its definately a temp sender... No hole to accept oil for a pressure reading. Just most likely from an earlier year. My parts fiche CD showed the same part number for about 3 years?? I probably should have checked 91 since mine is a late 90?? I'm going to accept this one as my fault...

I ordered: p/n 25036292 - oil temp sensor 87-89

should have ordered: p/n 10096136 - oil temp sensor 90-91

The oil pressure sensor does not have a hole for oil, its as you described, has a single male spade, and I think its offset to one side. It goes in near the oil filter housing on the back of the block..

Let the "Parts Guy" do the interpretation of your order! See that he gets the right info and "BINGO" the right "part". It happens that way!
Quite often you lean on the "local" guy to confirm for you "your look-up" then figure you'll cruz' the net and shop. The local guy either didn't want to irritate you and agreed, cuz' you would've probably just told him how proficient a "parts looker uppper you were" and gone ahead and ordered it anyway.
It's his "living" and if you maybe treat him with a bit of respect and courtesy you'd be surprised at the service and maybe even the price! You do really "need" one another!
This is not meant to flame the originator but to point out the fact that "good" help is very close at hand! You'll not have credit card problems, two week delivery delays and when the guy hands it to you he'll more than likely say "THANKS" and you should too!

I'll agree with that except for one thing. DEALERSHIPS are a business and look to make a significant profit on parts. Hence they RAPE us every chance they get for parts. There are a few places about that aren't into S/M stuff for Corvette parts; Superior Chevrolet comes to mind here. GM direct is okay except they RAPE you from the backside with shipping fees equal to 25% of total order. Okay when ordering lead lined suitcases but utterly stupid when buying lightweight plastic parts.
If my local dealers would stop FORKING me each time I call them for a part then I might consider doing business there. Else I will shop online.

Yup, I tried the local & A) they wouldn't budge on price & B) they looked up the wrong part the same way I did. For some reason the fiche page for 90-91 lists both the part for 87-89 & 90-91. Even though there is another page for the 87-90?? Go figure....

yep, getting the correct part number before ordering is very important. If you write gmpartsdirect beforehand, they will give you the correct number - I learned the hard way too of course.

since everyone else seems to have a different experience with superior chevy, perhaps an email will go out next time to them insteading of calling

You are right that the item near the filter housing has a single male spade, and has no hole. But it is the TEMP sender, which is what Trog seeks. The oil PRESSURE sender is on the back of the block, next to the distributor. It DOES have a hole in the inside (sensor end) to detect the pressure. You have the right item, just the wrong name. Good luck, and...
