I am pulling a trouble code of 33. I went to Autozone and they tell me it is a MAF or a ECU. Any easier, as in less expensive, places to look before I start spending money?
Yeah unplug the MAF if the car is not running or is running rough. If the car runs better than it's a bad MAF> You will need to replace the two relays if you replace the MAF anyway
I suffered from the dreaded code 33 syndrome for over a year. Try those two relays first, they are only about $10 each; replace both of them at the same time. If the problem still occurs (like mine did) try replacing the TPS.
I replaced relays, the MAF and the ECM...nothing helped. Then finally one day I was messing around and decided to test my TPS, at WOT it would only read something like 3.45v so I replaced it and my code 33 has never returned and it's been about 35,000 miles since.
:hurray: Cool. But just remember, that Code 33 can be intermittent and a real PITA.
Hopefully that fixed your problem, most of the time it does.
You might want to pick up an extra one of those relays and throw it in the toolbox. It's cheap insurance and that same relay is used in several places in your car...fuel pump relay, fan relay, etc.
