I just bought a complete 4+3 off EBAY. I get the thing here and it has what looks like a TV cable ( like on a automatic) going into the side of the OD unit. The Trans coming out of my car does not this cable or any provision for it that I can see. CAN I USE THIS TRANS IN MY CAR???? I know I took a chance doing the Ebay thing but that was the only way I could afford to fix my car and the seller has excellent feedback. My car is an '84 by the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!!

it probably came from a later c4. my 85 has it. it is kind of a tv cable. it kicks the trans out of od on the freeway when you floor it to pass someone. really a cool feature i think. mine goes into the throttle linkage bracket which im sure is way different on your 84. if you can fabricate a bracket to use it , do it. soon as you let off the gas, goes back in to od. i like it.

 

Thanks for the feedback! Has anyone ever done the mods necessary to make this thing work in an 84? What will I need to get? Worse case, can I just install it as is until I can get the linkage figured out or are there more technical differences that will hoold me back? More input is appreciated fellas, Im in a jam with this one.

yea, push comes to shove, itll work as is. what you might do is get a bracket off of an l98. then you have the right notch for the cable to fit in. then get a bracket for an 84 with an auto trans. they must have some kind of provision for a tv cable. then combine the 2. shouldnt be too tough. course thats easy for me to say. i have a mig, die grinder, a bit of steel laying around. plus im a 2 time recipient of the coveted "golden mouse ear" award, so im now qualified to make anything fit anything.

it only works in 4th gear. im not sure how the cable knows its in 4th. it may be electrical, may be mechanical. if mechanical, no sweat. if electrical, i dont know. are there any electrical connections on the unit different from your old one?? id have to crawl under my car and check out the linkage to see if anything trips when it goes to 4th. maybe someone more qualified can answer this one.

at any rate, im sure it will work as is. i really like this tranny. od works great if kept up, and the trans itself is damn near indestructible. super t-10s are tough. now if i could just find a decent shifter....anyway, good luck, regards, fng

 

Has your 84's computer been upgraded to a newer unit? I'm wondering how your current one works w/o a TV cable.

 

I have no idea about the computer but I know that when I go WOT on the highway it kicks out of OD. This car has always been a mystery to me. Im gonna put it in and run it till I get this sorted out. It seems a simple fix from here I hope.
