You're the guru, shouldn't you know? :jester I would be sensitive in the area of hte opti, otherwise you'll probably be ok. Steam itself (which is invisible) is extremely hot, I would test it on some vacuum line away from the car first to make sure it won't melt it.
I've always used Gunk brand cleaner. Large amounts can be prepared by mixing the straight solution(avail. in qts.) with, I believe kersosene. It can then be added to a spray atomizer(Windex type sprayer) . Spray onto a warm engine and work especially dirty areas with an old paint brush(trimmed to get stiffness). Rinse with a gentle garden hosing. This allows greater direction and control over the process. Same stuff is avail. in spray cans if you don't need much/want to mix. Steaming might better be reserved for out-of-the-car, heavy duty cleaning. Just my thoughts. Jack
I use a presure washer, BUT ONLY AFT OF THE VALVE COVERS ! Even though I have sealed the opti and vented it, I don't get the front of the engine wet. With the Vette up on the Qwik-Lift, I use the pressure washer to clean the underside. Only had to do it once since I bought it. Hot steam would worry me. :skep:
haha thanks everyone.. HOT steam crossed my mind.. but i thought to myself.. the plastics are under the hood laying around when the engine is hott anyways.. i should be able to take the steam right?? a respectible automotive technology teacher i spoke with told me it works great.. and he said just work around and careful in the front areas of the engine
