Default Help with winaldl

I posted the following thread on scan and tune and got no help/reply. Can anyone here help?
Last night I hooked up my lap top to my 86 coupe . I need some help using the program. I noticed right away that the idle was 1000 rpm and the knock retart doesn't work. Is there any way aroung this? I can't do any WOT evaluations with the car pinging like crazy. Here are some specific questions:
1. The TPS idle voltage is .49 : is this far enough out to need adjustment and does the 1000 idle speed affect that?
2. I could not get any data in the BLM, O2, or INT tables either live or saved. How do I get this info?
3. Where shoud the rich /lean counter value be for best performance?
Ive been working on cars for many more years than I care to admit to and I feel confident working on mechanicals but the electronics are new to me. I understand the basic functions of the sensors and the ECM. Any help you can give me on interpreting the Winalal dat and how to run the program is greatly appreciated. If you know of a archived thread that would help please pass it on. Thanks!

Being a newbie at this myself i can only shed a little light :D
In WinALDL it's normal for high rpm and no knock counts. :smash:
Go with Moates and or Datamaster software. Neither of these have those problems.
Here is the simple cable i made that works on Moates and Datamaster. I also made the WinALDL cable but haven't tried it on Moates or Datamaster.

Here is the Moates software

I have used the winaldl on my 86. It will set the rpm to 1000 with the 10k across the a-b pins and start sending all the data. Without the 10k I seem to recall not geting any of the sensor data. You may want to check the type of vehilce/porcessor you set it up for due to getting some of data but not all. An 86 vette is a "165".
I have also used the moates software so I'm not in the 160 mode. It also seems to not put you into that 1000 rpm diagnostic mode.

Thanks for the help/info . I could not use Moats on my computer because it runs windows 2000 professional software (vs required windows 95/98). I was able to download and boot up the Datamaster software. I will try it and hopefully be finally able to scan my vette. I'm still on a steep learning curve here. Thanks again.

In case you can't get Datamaster running.
The moates software runs in dos. Its a small program that fits on a 1.44 floppy disk great for installs on old laptops. If you can't boot to dos from that windows version you could make a bootable dos floppy disk.
