Default Fan Switch for 96 LT4

Been looking in websites and catalogs for a 200 deg. on 185 off fan switch for a 96 model. Most of the vendors list them for earlier models but not for a 96. Any recommendations? Does GM have one?

They don't list them for 96 cars because all of them are OBDII and the PCM has to be reprogramed to keep the SES light from coming on. I have one on my car but just taped over the light....I'm going to take it off once I get the car tuned and get them to kick on at 160.

I got mine from MidAmerica just follow the instructions that it comes with and it will work.

Thanks Mongoose LT4,
Sounds like the reprogam is the way to go.

I hate the fact that it costs us $350 just to change the fan temp switch... :banghead:

It's not so bad if you buy a used HPP. After the initial depreciation, they seem to hold their value OK.

1. Buy used HPP for $200
2. Program fans
3. If/when you sell the car, or get a custom program, you can sell the HPP for $200 :D

I had mine done by http://www.pcmforless.com

The reprogrammed the fans (on at 183, off at 170) works GREAT with 160 thermostat. They can also disable VATS, CAGS, raise rev limiter, and tune on the timing/fuel curve.

After the core, it was only about $205 I beleive. It picked my car up between .1 and .2 at the strip and it runs cool now.
