speedometer error after rear end change
just changed my rear end gears from 2.73 to 3.75. thought i would only need
a gear change in trans. i am told i need a $200.00 dipswitch to correct the problem. that does not include installation. any experience with this?

They are talking about the electronic speedo changer box. All you need is the correct plastic gears to change ont he tranny, and everything is back to normal. About $13 worth of parts, but plenty of labour. If you are not comfortable in dropping your driveshaft and change a few plastic gears, get the elctronic speedo changer box.

I would go with the box, that is what I have in my car. In order to do the tranny gears you need to do it at the same time as the rear or else it will cost you more than the box in just the labor. Not only does the drive shaft have to come out, but so does the tail housing which means the support beam also. There is allot of work there, where with the box you just wire it in and go. Not only that but the speedo gears have to come from Lingenfelter because they are the only one I know of that made gears for 3.75 gear that GM did not make for a Vette that will fit a 700R4. I do not know if you could use a speedo gear from a truck and they would work, it was just easier to go with the box.
