Interesting...Keeping Header Coatings looking good
I was reading about the VHT paints for Headers and engine parts...apparantly they claim using this paint INSIDE the headers will stop the bluing of chrome or ceramic coatings from browning, etc.
Heres the copy and paste I found:
Q:"What can I use to stop Chrome Headers from Blueing or Ceramic Headers from turning brown?"
A:"Use a can of VHT SP-101 White FlameProof Paint sprayed inside the small end of the exhaust system prior to installing the headers. Spray one can down each header. Do not worry about how it looks; just try to get it to run down the tubes evenly. If it drips out the other side, that is good. Clean off any over spray immediately with a strong solvent. This will virtually stop ceramic headers from browning and the bluing on chrome will be reduced to a ½ inch or less."
Sounds pretty Interesting eh?I just thought Id pass this along to you header owners that may have had problems with the coating holding up.

Interesting, I have not heard of that one. But one thing to remember. Most ceramic coating jobs such as offered by JET and HPC are often coated inside and out. Even at that, my old SLP shorties did dull some what after a few months. My new Exotic Muscle headers have yet to dull. Both sets are coated inside and out.

I have a product made to clean HPC coated headers:
"Liquid Buff", by High Performance Coatings, Inc., (800) 456-4721
I've used it with good success on the HPC coated Edelbrock TES headers on the IROC, though after 5yrs they are now showing their age. However I stopped polishing them shortly after I acquired the Vette nearly 3yrs ago.
Re: Interesting...Keeping Header Coatings looking good (DON M)
I hope this was some helpful info to others...I dont run headers but was reading about the upkeep on them and came across that tip.Supposedly the VHT for those pipes can withstand temps @ 1200 F. so it may work.If not it would flake off inside and burn away or something.
Theres alot of spray bombs on the market that claim this/that and Ive tried a few of the other brands for certain engine parts and so forth and they all ended up with a short life.I guess is youre coated inside and out by jet hot and others, you may not need to waste money or time for 8 cans of this stuff, since they say to spray one full can into each tube and 8 tubes is quite a bit of work.

Interesting indeed. . . . .
I Had my headers re-coated TWICE by Jet Hot. My engine tune was as good as it could be at the time....and to this day the coating looks like ca-ca. White and rusty by the collectors.
My friend has a Lingenfelter 434 monster sbc engine in His IROC. The combo has 9000 miles on it, perfectly tuned and still the coating is quite rusty on the bottom and is badly turned whitish.
Of course rain use(my car, IROC is a sunny day car) can hurt things a bit....but it should hold up better than how it does. I've seen plenty of cars with coating issues.
