im installing a new comp cam, cast, not steel, and i was told that i can keep the stock dist gear...
a time ago, i got brass dist gear (which must be installed when using steel cams), new, from a friend for a beer, so my question, will this gear work well with a cast cam??
:iagree: Use the stock gear with a cast cam. Most everyone making a billet steel cam are now pressing cast gears on them so that we don't have to use brass or bronze gears now. The only company making steel billet cams that do not have a cast gear is Comp. Thats there policy, their tech couldn't say why. But they do have a hi-tech polymer distributor gear that can be used and was tested under NASCAR conditions. No telling how long it would last, but then again no telling how long a brass or bronze gear would last either.
