Latest with my vette; had alternator tested yesterday-hadn't been showing up dash as charging much above 10volts! Alternator checks out OK tho! DAMN; any thoughts?
Battery is new, cables are fine, belt tension is fine, fuses etc are ok...

Alternator do not charge at 10 volts...more like 14.5volts..check with vom meter to confirm.. if it does not get new alternator... :yesnod:
:iagree:
I just rebuilt my alternator yesterday on my 86. The dash guage always showed .3volts less than the actual voltmeter reading taken at the alternator.
OK guys, what I SHOULD have said was alternator charges at 13.8v.
BUT the dash display SAYS it's charging at 9-10volts...

If your alternator checked out fine when tested, and you get a 13.8v reading at the alternator with the engine running, sounds like your alternator is good.
I would also measure the voltage at the BATTERY with a voltmeter while the engine is running also, if you have not already done so. The voltage at the battery should be really close to if not the same as at the alternator with the engine running, using a voltmeter. If this turns out to be the case it sounds like your alternator is good and your dash guage is inaccurate for whatever reason that may be. :auto:

0.3v I could live with, THREE is pushing the boundaries tho!
Either your battery is fried or you have blown a 12-gauge fusible link that is found below/behind the battery connecting to the junction box. If that link goes then you will get no charge on the gauge or going into the battery itself.

You are right, 3 volts difference is not right. But 0.3 or .3 is normal.
