2 things... who sells a cut lid? versus doing it myself? and how effective is bypassing the throttlebody coolant flow (96 LT4) what disadvantages or anything i have to look out for? THANKS :chevy
You can buy a jigsaw to cut the lid yourself for the same price as the purchase. Or use a friends. :) Just cut off as much as you can without loosing the frame. Just look at a picture of one on the internet for an idea. There is no art to it, you're just making the hole bigger. The disadvantage here is that a slightly louder intake noise can be heard, though if you have an exhaust you can't notice it.
As to the coolant bypass, I did not realy notice any gains, but it is easy and in theory it should work. The point of it from what I have heard is to heat the throttle body which doesn't make much sense anways, because the coolant doesn't get hot until a few minutes after engine operation. Really, I'd do it unless you live in Canada or some other artic region.

I did the coolant by pass on my LT-4 - no noticable change, but I do beleive it can't hurt. No need for a kit, just take the hose off the drivers side and route it to the tube that the passenger has goes into. Free!
No clue about the lit, I have the Breathless Vortex Rammer.

I had some black rubber caps laying arouns that fit from blocking vacuum lines on a carb. I don't think you need to though. Still would keep dirt and gunk out should you ever re-connect the by-pass.
