2. I have had this intermittent sh-sh-sh-sh sound that almost sounds like a lifter.
I pulled the valve cover and checked valve lash, everyone was well w/ in spec.
Other than the sound, car runs like a champ, no smoke or starting issues.
Could a lifter make this type of noise? Intake gasket, valve cover gaskets,
tune up are all recent... TIA
Is the noise possibly an exhaust leak? If passenger side, check your EGR. Mine is starting to make some strange sounds with the opening and closing of the valve. Since it is intermittent and not constant, that would probably rule out a vacuum leak. Good luck :seeya
Maybe something with the air pump? Depending on engine temp, the pump solenoid diverts air to the headers or the converter so make sure the hoses don't have any holes in them and that they're attached securely. You can also remove the check valve on the side where the noise is. You shouldn't be able to blow air through it in the opposite direction of the flow. If you can blow air through it, valve is bad, and exhaust is flowing back to the pump circuit and then out of the exhaust pipe to the right of the water pump facing forward. There is also a check valve on the line to the converter, so you might want to check that one too. If the solenoid is broken, the air pump would also vent through the exhaust pipe, so that would be something else to look at.
