Been busy converting to the LTCC direct fire ignition, while doing more research on the Optispark optical sensors I found this site. It is an alternative to the LTCC, appears to use a four coil setup though. I may look into their stage two kits for upgrading the Opti for use with direct fire ignitions.
Re: New Optispark / Direct Fire Ignition Options (ericcer)
Not for their Opti-Direct fire, just purchased an LTCC unit that uses (8) LS series coils, appears to be nearly the same concept.
I will call them next week about this;
The Opti-Plus Solution (STAGE 2)
The Delteq Opti-Plus builds on the Opti-Direct system's platform, and completely removes all the weaknesses of the Opti-Spark unit from the ignition system. To accomplish this, the distributor cap and rotor, encoder disk, and optical sensors are removed from the Opti-Spark distributor, and are replaced with a Delteq-designed trigger wheel and sensor assembly.
I had been thinking about removing the rotor from the Optispark, rumor is the Opti rotors can explode W/ frequent, extended use over 6K.
IMHO, Since I don't need the rotor anymore I just as well get it out of there...
Re: New Optispark / Direct Fire Ignition Options (superlund)
That seems like a neat system. I would like to see someone make an adapter kit that would install the opitcal sensors in a HEI distributor. That way the guys with an earlier L98 car and use a 94 and up PCM for better fuel control. And other hotrod applications.
