Default 2 simple questions

1) I purchased a new antenna for my 93 Ruby. I have a manual that really isn't clear on how to change this. The motor is fine, but the antenna was slightly bent, so I just bought the antenna. Can someone direct on how to change this, please?

2) Another simple one. I need to change the third(top) brake light. Again, my manual isn't really clear on this. Do you have to dis-assemble the gas cap area in order to get to the bulb?

Thank you

If its the same as my 87 you have to:
take out gas door and stuff to get to the bolts
remove lic plate
take unit out thru lic plate area
do your thing, and then replace...

For the antenna there is a tech tip on this, look at the top of the page under "tools"

For me I found it easiest to remove the left rear wheel and wheel well. You can then access the antenna mounting screws and ground strap much easier.

You'll have to disconnect the wires first, begin by removing the trim in teh hatch area, there will be some foam, under that foam is the antenna cable and power wires, they simply unplug.

Remove the luggage shade, then follow the wires to a rubber grommet(which is actuall attached to the wires), tie a string to the end of the wires and push the rubber grommet through the body with a long screwdriver.

Remove the mounting screws(through the wheel well), remove antenna from car.

Tie the string to the new antenna wires, pull it back through the hole, push rubber grommet back in(make take a lot of coaxing and cursing).
Mount teh antenna, hook up ground strap, reconnect the cable and wires, replace luggage shade, replace trim, go for a drive.

Frank, you're dead on......... But if only replacing anntena, all that isn't necessary.......

As for the third stop light, go in through the license plate assy (unless it's on the top, don't remember seeing what year your car is)........

:auto:

EDIT: Ok, '93 Ruby.....

:yesnod:

Remove license plate. Follow the wires to the bulb holder. Press and rotate the bulb holder, it will come free from the light housing and drop straight down. Then replace the bulb.

if you just purchased the antenna mast for $30 then you dont have to take out the whole motor..you just remove the nut that holds the antenna mast in and turn radio on to get antenna to raise and it will come out then get the new antenna started in the hold and turn radio off and it will go down all the way and then install nut to hold it in.
