I've posted about this several times but thought I'd touch base on it again now that I have a new tranny.
For years, I've been getting a vibration around 1200 rpm and again at high speeds (90+). It feels like its coming from below my seat, just in front of it. I thought it might have been my tranny but now that its rebuilt, I've ruled that out. I thought it was gone but after 500 miles, the vibration is back and have no idea why.
It basically started happening after I put the Corsa's on but every dealership I've brought it into said the exhaust on it is fine; no probs whatsoever. I especially told them to look at the cats and they said the same thing.
What could be causing this?? Its' driving me  .
Not sure what it could be....have you had the driveshaft balanced? All the U joints and Yoke up to specs?
Any motor mounts coming apart?
Hows the harmonic balancer? Is the rubber ring around it flush or coming out in some places?
Can you try and describe the vibration here? Is it continuous or is like in cycles with a silent part in between?
Does it happen in Park or N? Or onl;y when driving at speeds?
Just throwing ideas around..Ive had some vibes that were a PITA to track down and I had to try many different scenarios.I even had a shop rotate the torque converter 180 degrees to its flywheel position to see if it improved any.I also took off the serpentine belt and started the car and ran it in park to certain rpms to see if anything accessry wise could have been casuing what I was feeling.
The vibration can happen either moving or in park/neutral. Its much harder to pick up on when its sitting still but I know what to look for and its still there. It usually happens at a certain RPM range: 1200-1300. Doesn't really matter what gear its in but usually in 2nd (or is it 3rd) when I'm cruising at 40mph. It did happen a long time ago if I went 90mph or faster and got worse continuously but didn't happen this summer for some reason. It occurs the worst when I'm cruising at a certain speed (40mph) and am not just passing through the rpms/mph. Also doesn't matter if I'm turning, braking, or hitting bumps or not.
You through me when you said it happens in park. I was sure it was a balance problem with your wheels or a belt shifting in one of your tires. I would ask the tranny shop about it. I don't think it's the exhaust as this would be accompanied by a metal sounding vibration. You say you've had it for years? Hummm. What is the history on your engine? Been rebuilt?

Oh, sorry, yeah it is a metal sounding vibration. Almost pinging but not quite.
The wheels and rims are new and this sound has carried over to the new set as well.
Engine hasn't been rebuilt yet but it needs one. I plan on upgrading parts when I do it though.
