Default New engine head question????

I just got a new rebuilt engine for my 84 its a 86 suburban engine. I has the factory size cam and heads. CAN ANYONE PLEASE find out what kind of heads are in the engine. I was told they are a type of vortech heads and i was told they wont work with my crossfire. Can someone please find this out for me I cant find out, thanks a lot.
I already got this same question posted on the crossfire forum and I have not recieved any info yet.

the vortech heads weren't around in 86. it may be a set of tbi heads which have the 60* angle on the middle two bolts (i'm not sure what year tbi started). if all of the bolt holes are at the same angle your intake will be fine.

Someday you're going to listen. I told you two months (or more ago) that the vortec heads weren't introduced until 1996. You insisted they were vortecs. People do conversions. Nothing is impossible. If you know they are vortecs, then who am I to argue. You are there. I'm here. Now you say, "I has the factory size cam and heads." What does THIS mean? By size, do you mean combustiin chambers size? Valve sizes? Intake runner size? Then you ask, "CAN ANYONE PLEASE find out what kind of heads are in the engine." Like I stated earlier, you are there. I'm here. There is no such thing as, "a type of vortech heads". Either they are vortec heads or they aren't. On an otherwise stock truck engine, I would highly doubt it was converted to vortecs, but you didn't want to pay any attention to that, before. While some conventional manifolds CAN be modified to work on vortec heads, the Crossfire manifold isn't one of them. The stock 1986 truck heads would be VERY similar, if not idenical, to your 1984 Crossfire heads. The Crossfire manifold will work, fine, on stock, 1986 truck heads. One reason you are having trouble getting answers, is because you keep changing directions. First it's a Crossfire on vortecs, then a carb, then a TPI, then... Before you can start erecting the walls, you have to have the foundation in. You need to have an idea of what you are doing, before you ask, how to do it. Nobody has tried harder to help you, but you almost defy help. And, NO, I can't tell you how much horsepower it will have. GOOOOOD luck, and...

:lolg: :chill: If you post the casting numbers on the heads, someone might be able to ID them for you. If by some chance they are Vortecs, there are several different ones; some good, some lousy, none will work with your intake. If the motor is for a Sub., the cam will be very small; like around 184* or 190*intake, with 390" or so lift. Good luck with this.

Well first off (CFI-EFI) if you dont like my post and if it bothers you then dont send a smart butt reply back to me. I appreciate the help but calm down this isnt life and death. Ok this is whats up, I just bought a 86 suburban engine that has 2k on it and the guy i got it from said that the factory engine has vortec heads on it. I am not saying it does but he says it does and so did a local AUTO ZONE that i called. Now maybe its not the same type of vortech heads they use now but they both said that the heads are considered vortech. Ok no me posting all the questions about me going to carb, me going to TPI and me doing this and that, that is what this forum is for. I need help making decisions I have never done anything like this and I am just looking for opinions of fellow corvette owners. I have had many good transactions with people on this forum and they agree with me that you dont need to get all mad and offensive over this. I am once again thinking about going to TPI but lord knows I shouldnt ask how to do it again, but I was wondering if anyone had a book that could find what heads they put in 86 suburbans or if someone worked at the dealer ship i dunno. That is why i didnt give codes or numbers, and when the engine was taken out of the sub. it was put into a 72 vette and he said it was pretty fast. ANY ONE have any ideas with out giving me grief if so keep it to your self.

Have a look at the top of the heads, somewhere between the rockers will be a casting number. You don't have to work at a dealership to translate the number, thats what the internet is for :) :)
When you have the number, visit these sites and look it up:

If you don't like my answers, you might try asking a coherent question! I reiterate:

"Before you can start erecting the walls, you have to have the foundation in. You need to have an idea of what you are doing, before you ask, how to do it. Nobody has tried harder to help you, but you almost defy help."

By the way, that "smart butt reply" Had some pretty good info, in it, AGAIN. It looks like you would prefer to give me a load of defecation, then listen to facts.
