My voltage is fine in the 13.8 to 14's however.. this signaling sometimes works then sometimes doesnt. When it does it will blink slowly and not rapidly like other cars do. this has been going on for a long time and now I decided to get to the bottom of it and fix it.
i had the same problem on my 88 camaro...my girlfriend at the time thought it was very funny because it was not a constant speed...fast...slow...barely getting to the next click...anyway...it was a simple unplug/plug in kinda job behind the dash somewhere...i'll look in my service manual when i get home from work and repost with the location in the vette (hopefully 85 and 87 are the same)...
by the way..it must be nice to have your biggest concern be the flashing of your turn signals
The flashing rate is determined by the lamp current. More current, faster flashing. Very slow flashing indicates a turn signal lamp burned out. Turn the signals on and look at the front and rear lamps. A dim turn signal lamp indicates usually a poor ground for that lamp which lowers its current and slows the turn signal rate. Try a new flasher they aren't expensive.

My brother's '87 have the problem as well. I've checked all the bulbs~all seemed okay. I've opened up the center IP and can not for the life of me find the flasher unit. Any ideas where that is?
I had the same problem on my 91 about 4 years ago. All the bulbs were okay. I bought a "heavy duty" flasher from NAPA and it has wokred perfect since then. On mine both flashers were under the dash, by the steering column. You have to remove the carpeted panel, not fun to get at but not a big deal either.

Aloha,

So the flasher can be bought at any parts store is what you are saying ? And when I move the carpeted dash panel underneath.. What do I look for ?

The turn signal flasher on an 87 is beside the ECM,behind passenger side dash.
Your hazzard flasher is behind the switch panel( just above the volume control ****)
Both of these flashers are canister shaped.
If you have no hazzard flashers I would start with that flasher(way easier to change)
It may even cure your turn signal woes.

Yes, they are very generic. Be sure to get the "heavy duty" one or you will gain nothing. Just look for something like the new one you have in your hand. :~) It is not hard to find. There is a difference between the turn signal flasher and the hazard flasher I believe. Check the Napa or Checker web sites for sure.
Well I went to the NAPA auto parts store and bought a new flasher which combines both the hazard and turn signals. I'll work on it tonite and see what I come up with. I'll keep you posted. :flag

You were saying something about a volume control **** ? Are you referring about behind the stereo unit ? Also I removed the kick panel on the pasenger side and the canister is too far up. Im unable to take down the carpeted dash panel and I believe I heard somewhere the top dash has to come off and you unscrew behind the breadbox in order for it to come down? Is this true ? Anyhow nothing has been done yet since this seems like a project I'll do on a Saturday when I have more time.

Yes, the volume control on the radio. If I remember correctly the turn signal flasher is attatched to the right side of the dash support brace in a spring clip. I have an aftermarket dash panel so for me it's easy to get at.(6 screws and I'm in). If you can't squeeze your hand past all those wires you can remove the dash pad.
You were saying that your hazzard flashers are not working. Why not start with that one since it is so easy to get at.
