Default 86 cast to 113

I bought a new set of 113 s to put on my 86 coupe. It has the cast heads . Can someone please tell me exactly what is needed to make the change to the 113 aluminums , I need to stay emission legal (california car). Can I use my intake or do I need a later model manifold I only want to do the job once , please help

If you need to keep the egr (Smog *****) then you are going to have to get a new intake, But take it to heart I have seen these for cheap even some opened up for around 100.00 on ebay. Good luck on project!!!!! :smash:

Ok If the intake changes what do I change to and why? I've heard about changing the exhaust manifold too. is this true?

The reason you need to change inake is that the 113 heads do not have a heat riser as you iron heads do. (if you look at the intake you will see that in the middle there is a place to share betwwen the heads an intake, however in the 113 heads the middle is pluged.) For egr to work you would need to make this change. ie.. swap to a later intake and egr system. :smash:

since no EGR flows thru the head, you need to draw it from the passemger side exhaust manifold. Specifically #8 primary.
A "EGR crossover tube" goes from the primary to the intake manifold. A EGR temp sensor is in that tube. There should be a wire connector coming from the engine harness/firewall to connect it to the computer.

so it looks like I need a 88 or later intake ,would you happen to know a casting #?. Does the exhaust have to come from a 88 or will another year work?

If I were going to get a new intake I would probably look at one that is already ported or maybe even spend the bucks on a Superram.

the # that's on the manifold is 10066013
look for these EGR passageways:

Try to get a 88 (I think) or later crossover tube pipe as the previous ones attach by way of some funky set-up. The later ones attach with simple bolts and flanges to the #8 primary. Which is why you might want to get a passenger side manifold. Theoretically, you could drill into yours weld on a tube with a flange to match and you are in business. I just recently gave my pipe to Caboboy. Maybe he can take a pic of it so you can see it. Look into if you have that EGR temp sensor pigtail on your year car.

Becareful you might catch mod fever and the only cure is $$$$$$

This would be the best way to go but your looking at around 850.00 for used and 1400.00 for new Super Ram and of you would want to lose that stock throttle and get a 52mm throttle at around 200.00.but then ect ect ect........

Paul, my 86 iron head intake looks exactly like that. I thought only the 85 was different... Wasnt the 86+ MAF intakes EGR functional?

Ok I checked my 86 intake casting #14087069 it looks like the same thing , but I guess there must be different heat passages or something.Right now I'll just look for a used intake and exhaust . thanks guys youve been a real help. Its true what they, once you get the feaver its hard to stop. Oh by the way I did have the heads ported & polished. thanks again

You will need an 88 intake only because the later years don`t have the cold start injector valve .
