service engine soon
hi everyone..was on the c3 forum for years and last august finally purchased a 86 that was in not bad shape other than interior work and a whole bunch of engine leaks. I have just finished re installing the rebuilt engine and I am getting a service engine soon light. It only comes on about 3 seconds after the colling fan starts..the computor os showing now actual codes...but the light flashes 12..showing a ground problem...before I took the motor out the engine light never came on like it is now..Any ideas of which ground could be causing the problem...I am looking at the one just beside the oil temp sending unit...any other ideas...Thanks... :rolleyes:

Code 12 is a diagnostic code, youll get that every time you pull codes.
When the SES comes on during normal operation, its not a Code 12 that causes it, its something else.

Is it running badly or anything? It only comes on when the fan has come on? have you done anything to the fans to make them come on sooner?

No..never even touched fans ...engine is runnig great but its just this servvice engine light..need to get an e test and there is now way they do it with light on...

Jump a wire from A to B with IG key off. Turn on key and you should get 12 flashed 3 times, then any stored codes, followed by 12 three more times. After correcting any problems, you dis-connect NEG battery cable to clear any stored codes.
