Tom, yes I was fortunate enough to find a great deal in the C4 parts for sale forum, I gave $420 for the entire LTCC unit & coils shipped. The unit was brand new & the coils were from a '02 Z06 I believe. I had Magnecor custom make the wires to my Specs, they were delivered ready to install.

bogus, consider the vent system gone. I'm going to install a Meziere HD Elect water pump, pull the cap off of the Opti to remove the rotor & dump the vent system all at the same time. Then reseal the Opti with silicone. I will send you the .TIFF file of the stand-off drawing tomorrow or Tuesday. The wire separators are from a Dodge 8.0 liter V10 truck. Part# 56026850 $2.25 Ea.
Good luck with your install manual let me know if you need anything else.

Here is a pic of the wire separators before I grind off the second rear wire holder;

Mojo & Kittmaster, I made the coil stand-offs on my lathe, then laid-out their position on the composite valve covers, drilled & tapped the hole locations for 1/4-20 UNC Thd. The trick is to then bond them permanently into the valve covers. I used an industrial aerospace product for bonding aluminum to composite parts. I didn't want to risk any leaks, or vibration problems. The coils unscrew from the top of the stand-off. http://www.loctite.com/int_henkel/lo...ol_EA_9394.pdf
Here are some pics of the valve covers & coil stand-offs in work...

Laying out the hole locations on the valve covers. Note the reading on the calipers as that is the C/L dimension for the coil mounting holes;

The valve covers after drilling & tapping;

Stand-offs in work on the lathe, final tapping operation;

Completed stand-off, you will need (16) of these;

Better pic of stand-offs installed on composite valve cover after mounting/bonding & painting;

Scorp, Thanks, the tires are brand new less than 500 miles they are the "R" compound shaved road race version of the Michelin Pilot Sports, they are known as "Michelin Pilot Cup Sports" and yes they have very little tread on purpose. :D

Bam92, the coils are exactly .032 from the bottom of the coil to the top of valve cover, total height above valve cover (top of coil) is 1.60"

1990 & ericer, thanks
BTW Eric, your Delteq system looked pretty cool installed also. I couldn't believe the throttle response I gained after the install. Had a good ignition system before, brand new Opti, MSD 8.5 Super Conductor wires & MSD Blaster coil. No comparison to this system though.

-Jim

Outstanding install. I thought about mounting mine directly to the valve covers as well. Looking on the inside at the ribbing I was considering just drilling into the bosses but wussed out and mounted mine to the fuel rail covers (they are cheaper to replace and don't leak oil).

Did you contact Magnecor directly on the wires. Might have to do this so my car looks right prior to selling or I can just pass the info along to the new owner.

by installing the coils directly to the valve cover, they are closer... the Magnacor's would then fit.

I contacted Magnecor directly. The plug wire length & ends were made to my Specs. I used 45 degree boots on the coils & 90 degree boots on the plugs. The length of the wires are all 10".....

Can you use an aftermarket ignition box with that setup, i.e. MSD? Also, if the cap/rotor are reused in the Opti, then occasional replacements are still necessary, right?

the high voltage side of the opti is removed. the cap and rotor do nothing...

Okay, I'm going to admit I don't know how this set up works. You still have the opti-spark hooked up, with spark plug wires and coil wire? The plug that ties the opti to the ECM, how is that effected? It might be easier for me to see the instructions. Is it possible to for you to send me a copy via scanning and e-mail? Tomdank@aol.com Thanks. This set up has me thinking.

Strick,
The coil & plug wires are not hooked to the Opti. (see pics above)
All the Opti does now is output signals to the factory PCM for the sequential fuel injection timing & a signal to the new LTCC box which controls the (8) individual coils.
Theoretically you could remove the rotor & cap from the Opti & the car would run, obviously you would need to machine a cover to replace the cap to keep water & debris out of the trigger wheel & optical sensors…

I am re-writing both the manual and the webside. I hope to have this done ASAP. As soon as Bob approves, I will forward you my instructions.

The idea here is really quite simple.

The opti has 2 sides, the trigger ("Opti") and the high voltage ("Spark"). By installing the LTCC, you bypass the high voltage side of the opti.

The optical part sends data to the ECU for timing information, that data is intercepted by the LTCC module and used to fire whichever 1 of the 8 coils it deems necessary. The LTCC is in effect a piggy back processor.

Superlund - where do you get your raw material/bulk aluminum?

Will this work with a 92 and a DFI 7?

This should work... as long as the OptiSpark is providing the spark data, it should. the DFI is separate from the ignition... as long as the DFI uses the Opti for it's timing data.

Bogus, I purchase .75 diameter 6061 T-6 bar stock in random lengths at a local surplus store. You can order small pieces/lengths online also. I made the first set of stand-offs here, but if you/anyone is interested purchasing them individually or in sets of (16) I can get them made for a low price. I just don't have time to make them in quantity’s myself. I haven't forgotten your .TIFF image either, just been busy with work & the holidays. :)

So Keith broke the rotor on a DynaSpark unit?? Hate to hear that, he did me right on the LTCC unit. I couldn't ask for more, good price & quick shipping on a brand new LTCC unit & good used coils. Thanks again Keith....

Saw at set of 8 LS1 type coils on Ebay with a buy it now of $150. Just make sure they are the LS1 versions and the correct part number else you will be having to change the plug connectors.

I have the lathe, I just can't get the stock material... I will go searching!!!!

no problem with the TIFF, whenever you can!

I am not surprised the rotor broke - it's a factory GM part, not upgraded, as of yet.
