Just finished up installing a Bob Bailey LTCC Direct Fire Ignition, spent today making a custom wiring harness from what is/was supplied. Shortened some wires lengthened others. Fired up on the first try, all I can say is the throttle response is incredible! We had 7" of snow so I have not driven the car yet.
Custom stand-offs mounted & bonded to composite valve cover prior to coil install;
LTCC control box mounted on rubber isolators;
Left side coils mounted & wiring complete;
Right side coils mounted & wiring complete;
$420 for the unit w/ the LS series coils
$105 for the Magnecor custom KV85 plug wires (10" length)
$10 for stainless steel fasteners & Misc
$535 total install....
Re: Direct Fire / LTCC Install Completed (Spankyellow)
Fires/triggers off of the optical sensors within the Optispark, takes the high voltage out of the Opti, Opti still triggers the sequential fuel injection also.
Re: Direct Fire / LTCC Install Completed (superlund)
That is a SUPER JOB! I couldn't have done it better myself! :thumbs: I noticed that your PCV valve is going somewhere other than to where it is normally installed. So where is it going" :D
Thanks, takes alot of time...
The PCV system runs thru the small air filter you see in the 2nd picture. The filter is above the LTCC box. You can see how much oil has been trapped from being vacuumed into the intake. That is about 1000 miles worth of oil separating you see in the small filter. I just drain it off now & then. I run the same type of set up on the fresh air side of the PCV system.
Common mod for high RPM LS series engines also.
Re: Direct Fire / LTCC Install Completed (superlund)
that is a lovely looking install.
I must ask, where did you route the harness for the right side? I tried it, but I got caught by the EGR back there... it gets HOT.
Also, be sure that the module gets enough cool air. I installed mine on the right side by the heater blower, and it just got too warm over there. I ended up relocating it to the front left corner under the headlite.
Thankfully I don't have any EGR piping to worry about, so I routed the wiring behind the intake.
I should have plenty of airflow around the unit where it is installed, another reason I put the unit up on the rubber isolators was to get airflow under the case...
I kept it away from Elec. motors as I remembered the trouble you had...
:crazy:
Feel free to use any pictures you need, I have more that can be sent via Email. I have a complete Eng drawing of the stand-offs that can be sent as a .TIFF image.
I'm thinking about removing the vent system from the Opti now that there is no high voltage inside of it, one less system to fail in my mind (one way-valves/vacuum leaks).
Also my car is a 95 model & it has a dedicated Tach output from the PCM just like the 96 model. I completely removed the coil control module & simply hooked the white wire (EST signal output) from the PCM directly to the white wire (EST signal input) of the LTCC module. The car started on the first try & the Tach works perfectly...
My 95 factory service manual was a big help (book# 2 page; 6E3-A-82) it shows how the entire ignition system is wired on that page. Also shows the PCM Tach output @ pin A13 of the PCM.
No need for snow tires here, the car stays in the garage until the snow is gone! :D
I'm using my new tow vehicle to get around, a 1998 1 ton 4 door Dodge Ram dually with an 8.0 liter V10 gas engine, got tired of the diesel noise & slow warm ups from my Ford Powerstroke....
Re: Direct Fire / LTCC Install Completed (superlund)
Yes, I agree. REmove the vent system. I intend to do that, when I replace the waterpump.
Thank's for the pics, I am going to snag them up and use them in the manual. That will be way cool! Also, more than likely the website, too. We really need to punch those areas up for Bob. He has a good product, just an iffy look... :)
Also, if you want to email me the standoff TIFF, that will be WAY cool!! abbogus@yahoo.com.
Your method saves money, that's what I like!
EDIT: Where did you find those trick wire standoff's?
Re: Direct Fire / LTCC Install Completed (1990CORVETTE)
Very nice clean install! Mine is not as cool as yours. I just got finished with the Delteq system. It is a nice feeling knowing you can access your plug wires so easily. Plus no more high voltage going through the opti. :)
