Default limitations of th700r4

I would like to know how much power my transmission can handle. It's a th700r4.
I've got a supercharged l98 vette with about 450bhp do you think it can take it??

Haloe,

There are quite a few threads on this. Do a search. I do know that Corkevette1 and Ski_dwn_it both make close to 500hp and run the 700r4s. Just be sure you have a tranny cooler.

I am installing 700r4 in my car with an anticipated 400rwh with my updated 383, I have been told I should have no problems.

when built right they can handle upto 800 fhp art car even sells them with warrantys for that application :cheers:

I have seen one hold up to a 9.80 7000k Netural drop.. That right the guy holds the rpms at 7000 and drops her into gear. :yesnod:

I'm on my fourth 700 trans. Two rossler's didn't last more than 5000 miles each. My local shop did one that lasted well over 25K and needed freshening. The right convertor and a tranny cooler is the key. Keeping the fluids cool keeps them alive.

at 450 youre in the definite gray area, 90% of the time the stocker wont hold up to that amount of torque

(its the torque, not the HP rating, that breaks things)

If you have it built by a pro, with top-notch parts and especially a tranny cooler, it should handle the power

heat and mis adjusted tv cable those 700 r have to be adjusted correctly or they will eat themselfs up it is not a kickdown like in other trannys it is a connected to a pressure valve that controls line pressure directly :cheers:
