Looks like I snapped the spider gears in my 36 today. I did get to meet up with the caravan going to St. Jude though. There were some really nice looking vettes there including a local 54 and a supercharged 02. Looks like I'm in the market for the 44 conversion. :(

Ransome, I would have done that first. Actually I thought you had already for some reason.

What exactly were you doing at the time the spider gears gave out? The reason I ask is I'm thinking of upgrading from 3.08s to 3.54/373s and granted, my engine's stock. But if all you were doing was merrily driving along, then I'm going to have to reconsider. Thanks...

Frank, I installled the dana 36 (3.54 gears) with the reinforced rearcover about two years ago, before I got the wild idea to do the 396. It has held up fairly well so far, but I think the big torque finally took it out. John, I was romping on it at a light when it went. I new there would be a dana 44 in my future.

This is just an excuse for getting a 44. But it works. "Oh honey, I don't know what happened, it just started making noise. Guess I need a new one"

Thanks for the info. I'm betting that romping with a stock LT1 and 3.54s will probably be ok... :)
