Default l98 heads

Can you swap other standard 23 degree sbc heads on to this block or is it sort of specific like the LT1/4?? Figure it would be a good idea if you want to stroke it and make very good top end power... unless ported l98 heads are pretty good... dunno, also how much does an l98 weight?

There are a lot of aftermarket aluminum heads available and virtually all of them will outflow the stock L98 heads. By the time you spend the time and money porting stock L98 heads you'd be much better off with a set of aftermarket heads, especially if you want to increase the engine size sometime down the road. Check out this below site for specs.

Hope this helps.

The L98 is a small block Chevy, just like millions of others. What makes it an L98 is the heads, intake, cam, etc.
A good head chart should include flows from .100" to .600". It would give a much better idea of the heads potential. Some heads; like the Vortecs, flow very good from .100" to .400-.450", then fall flat. Some don't do much below .400", then flow big numbers. You need to match the flow with what you expect from the motor. Hope this helps some too.

L98 heads are also found new on the GM ZZ4 crate motor. They have 58cc combustion chambers, a 163cc intake port and flow around 199cfm peak on the intake. A good set of ported L98 heads (e.g. LPE) will end up with around 180cc intake ports and flow upwards of 240cfm on the intake.

For comparison, the LT1 heads start with (I think...) around 175cc intake ports, and flow around 225cfm. ported, they are good for around 265cfm.

LT4 heads have 195cc intake runners and flow around 240cfm stock, ported they are good for 300cfm.

These are numbers I've found here on the forum, GM's performance catalog and various websites, not from personal experience. The flow numbers are not meant to be exact, but I believe a close representation of what's out there.
