The front bearings are gone on my 92 LT1 (w/Z07 HD suspension/brakes).
1. At 90k miles, is this a common problem?
2. Given all the money y'all just saved me on the optispark/w-pump parts, are there any good deals on these bearing assemblies? I need the ones with the speed sensor.
Re: Front Wheel Bearings- longevity & replacement (John92LT1)
On my 94 LT1, I replaced the front bearing with one for a 94 Firebird. This was on recomendation of forum member. It worked just fine and had speed sensor on it. Got bearing at Auto Zone for around $140.00. Saved a bunch over Corvette Bearing :flag
Re: Front Wheel Bearings- longevity & replacement (xs650)
I noticed it three ways:
1) Was told there was play in them when the shop was changing tires & doing alignment.
2) Horrible and uneven brake wear on rt front (~10k of highway miles on rt front pad).
3) "CLUNK" every time you apply the brakes, as the rotor moves around a bit- or at least that is my guess as to the cause.
Re: Front Wheel Bearings- longevity & replacement (xs650)
What did you notice first as the bearings died? So we will know what to watch or listen for.
If the bearings are far enough along on their way to destruction, you may begin to hear a humming noise. I drove another vette with a bad right rear bearing and it made a nasty humming noise. When driving straight down the highway, the sound was mild. I then turned the steering wheel left-right-left to swerve back and forth at highway speed and the humming got softer when pressure was off the bad bearing and louder when the pressure was on the bad bearing. If you hear this noise, don't drive it anymore until you get them replaced.

Get them at Pepboys for $139.99 each and they are for the Vette too. They come with a lifetime warranty so the rest will be free. I had a little roar going around corners when I knew I had a bad one. Fixed it right up by replacing it. Simple job too. :smash:
Re: Front Wheel Bearings- longevity & replacement (xs650)
I have 114K on my original wheel bearings. I check them regularly, every six weeks or so. I am thinking about doing some suspension & brake upgrades in the near future and may go ahead and replace the bearings while I have everything apart, just as a preventive measure.
