Default Test Pipe

Other than being a No-No, what other problems would I run into by running a Test Pipe in place of the catalytic converter on my 86??????????
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! :flag

Which converter? Pre's or center?

It would replace the center unit.

You will get about the same performance results as with installing a very hi-flow cat.

In fact a few years a guy in FL installed a 3" dual exhaust in an '87 Vette, dual hi-flow bullet cats followed by dual FLowMasters; when he made back to back passes with the dual cats vs dual "test pipes" there was virtually no difference in time slip data. With either setup he was turning 12.0x sec 1/4 mile times.

Anybody done dyno comparisons?

Also, don't neglect the difference in your *wallet* after you pay for 2 high-flow cats vs. 2 pipes. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I remeber articles in Carcraft or Hot Rod or a magazine like that had a "Green Machine" kinda thing. Anyway the performance was negligible between straight pipes and cats. Pretty cool really :)

Wow scorp508, that is nearly a half second difference!

Still, I wonder what your results would have been if ya added the air pump delete and flowmaster mufflers to your system with the cat installed

I had :yesnod:, but I never had a good day at the track between adding those 2 and yanking the cat. No good timeslips to compare in that configuration. My butt-o-meter felt hardly any difference with them, it just sounded better.

Well, I recently switched from Stock Manifolds/MAD PreCatLess Front Y-pipe/Random Tech Cat/Dynomax Rear Y-pipe/Muffler Eliminators....to Hooker Super Comp Long Tube's/Custom Dual 2.5" Mandrel Bent Exhaust/3" X-pipe/No Mufflers...I did 221rwhp with the old exhaust, I'll let you know what the new exhaust does.
