Code 36 is MAF Burn Off Function Fault: Replace the 2 relays behind the battery (PN: 14089936) - both are the same relays: Got mine at Autozone for $7.59 each... The disconnect neg cable to reset codes...
I just went through the same thing the other day with my 86 Automatic. I scanned my vette with my Auto X Ray scannner and got "transmission shift fault." Then I grounded the two upper right hand terminals of the under dash connector. It flashed me a CODE 36. What are you using to pull the code and the "transmission shift fault"?
I then cleared the CODE 36 . CODE 36 is Mass aif flow burn off circuit. How are you pulling the code?
Code 36: Check connections at MAF, MAF relay and MAF Burn off relay. Check resistance of MAF relay and MAF burnoff relay with digital Ohm meter. replace if less than 18 Ohms. Possible ECM failure.
I found my MAF relay connections caked with s@#t. I sprayed some electronic connection cleaner spray in there, disconnected the battery for a while, and WHALA. Code 36 cleared. Hope this helps you man.

:seeya :iagree:
If I did not have a digital multimeter, I would have just paid the $15 to rule out that possibility. Not a lot of money. :D If you do not have a multimeter, sure, consider just replacing them for $15, why not? :D
Vinnies87,
I did not intent any contraversy. :D
Hey, none taken here, just was thru this code already... and fround one bad, and since the work together, its (to me that is) a safer bet to replace them both, that was my point....
Thanks for the help guys and the directions to that website. Save to favorites, it will come in handy.
Unfortunately, I get to use it on my car now :banghead: driving around town today I got a SES light and she started running like shiznit, so it's in the garage waiting for me to come pull the codes. :banghead: :banghead:
That's what I get for parking it next to the 88 with the code 36, damn virus jumped over and infected my car.
