I have been driving my 87' the last 3 days with no trouble at all, today I ran alot of errands and when I went to leave the grandparents I cranked the car and as usual when its hot it did not start right away, so I let off the key and got back on it-nothing does not click, does not turn over just sits there, The battery is fine, all the fuses including vats are fine when I turn the key to "start" the security light flashes, could my VATS module have crapped out? I have no idea where to start on this one, sorry if it was a little long-winded
Thanks
Ben
Wait 10 minutes and try again. If VATS got triggered it'll reset after 10 mins. or disconnect the battery for 1 minute. If that still doesn't work check for fuel and spark.
Had a very same thing a couple of weeks ago... the final outcome was that the key pellet lost its resistance code...which... by the way was a new key only a couple of months old... used old key and she started right up... but for safey sake, installed (MAD) the VATS bypass kit, now i can disable the VATS, use VATS or totally disable system.... for $54.00 a worthwhile investment.
THANKS GUYS! I went and let it reset, fired right up, I can see a bypass kit in my near future for sure, I really appreciate it, where else other than Vette guys can you get a problem resolution in 5min flat?

For what its worth the key simply has a resistor in it. The car sends a signal through it and expects to get a certain signal on the other side after running through the resistor. If it doesn't, it won't start. There are I think 14 different resistor pellets.
