I am going to install Superram (base, runners, plenum) to my stock 350 engine with 74219 camsgaft and propably AFR 190-195 cylinder heads (or something cheaper).
(btw I have -88 automatic vette)
I would like to also upgrade my transmission to get the "launching" better.
I am currently running with 3.07 gear ratio and I was wondering would a higher rear end do me any good?? I was browsing TPIS website and saw that they are selling 3.73 gear sets.
I'm also wondering about the torque converter and shift kit. Ive read from past posts that 2200-2400 might be best for my setup?
Was it Transgo who made the best shift kits?
My vette is daily driver during summer. I like to keep it very driveable but it has to have torque and some serious HP!
I have a combination that is very similar to what you are going to build. I installed 3.45 gears to help with the holeshot and I installed a 2800 to 3200 RPM stall speed with lockup to help with the 60 ft times. Before I installed the 2800 to 3200 stall speed I had a 2400 RPM stall speed. On street tires I could smoke the tires any time I wanted but with the slicks the engine dogged until 2600 or 2700 RPM and then took off, that is why I went with the higher stall speed. If you are not planning to race the car with slicks, stick with the 2200 to 2400 stall speed.
with a little 350 motor then the 340-350 gears will work out fine in a 383 a 320-330 gears will work nicely and a 406 a 307 is just right now anything larger than a 406 then the 307 will be too much and i would sugest to go larger tires is everybody confused yet
but i did run a 307 gear 350 with a converter myself that was only because the 350 motor i knew at the time would be pulled in favor of more cubes later on :D
I have the 2.70 gears, does this mean I'm only limited insde the 2.?? ratios or can I go into the 3.** ratios as well?
The 2-series carrier and 3-series carrier for the D36 are supposed to be a bit different, but I dont know enough about it to tell you for sure. I know there are places who build gears lower than 3.07 for the D36 though. (3.33, 3.54, 3.73.....)

No, you're not. It's my understanding that there are aftermarket 3.xx gears that were designed to work with the Dana 36 2 series rear ends however, the closer you get to 4.xx, the easier it is to break them. There are more than a few people on the Forum who have done this (upgraded without problems AND upgraded and broken them!). Best bet is to hit the archives. The info is definitely there...
