Does anyone happen to know what the chamber volume for stock heads is for stock 1985 C4 Corvette? Looking to get Edelbrock Performer Heads and they come in 2 sizes, 64cc and 70cc. Do not want to change the cam or intake. Need to know which ones to get. :nonod:
Re: Chamber volume for 1985 Corvette Heads (vader86)
Sweet!!! Thanks. Going to go with the 70cc Edelbrock Performer heads and Felpro Gasket set with the copper lining. High volume fuel pump and steel braided fuel lines. Accel HEI Super Coil. Accel Distributor Cap and rotor. Mallory 10mm wires. K&N cold air induction and throttle body flow booster and power coupler. Any advice or do you think this sounds OK for starters.
Re: Chamber volume for 1985 Corvette Heads (CFOHO)
Performer RPM heads flow a little better; can be ordered with better springs that can take a higher lift camshaft (if you decide to stuff one in at a later date) and are the same price.
They're offered in 64 and 70ccs also 60739 is the part number and are the ones used by American Speed Engineering on their 400+ HP 383s.
I've had them on my engine for a few years now without a single problem.
As to the coil, be careful on which Accel coil you buy. The one you need comes with a red and a white wire. Don't get the one with the yellow wire unless you've changed distributor pick-up coils and the new one also has a yellow wire.
I don't have any experience with the head gaskets you mentioned. I run FelPro's Marine head gasket.
Why are you changing fuel lines? I personally think the power coupler and the TB flow booster are a waste of $. If I'm thinking of the right parts, one signals the TPS that full throttle is being applied by sending a 4.6 volt signal to the ECM and the other bolts to the front of the MAF supposedly to straighten airflow into the plenum. I'd like to see INDEPENDENT dyno results that prove they are worth anything.

Please dont waste your money on the 'flow booster' or 'power coupler,' I hope you havent bought them yet. 10mm wires are a bit big, but thats fine.
The slightly smaller combustion chamber will give a slight increase in compression ratio, so listen for knock, because if you dont run 89+ octane now then you just might need to go up to those.
Re: Chamber volume for 1985 Corvette Heads (vader86)
I only run Amoco Premium in the car now. And it still knocks slightly when getting on the gas. There is a slight hesitation in the motor when at cruising speed and it almost seems as if a cyclinder is misfiring. So I was going to change the filters and since one is in the tank, I was just going to upgrade the fuel pump to high volume. Since I have a misfire (or so it seems) I was going to ugrade the entire ignition system (Distributor, Coil, Cap, Rotor, Wires, and Plugs) Any other ignition parts I am missing? Not familiar with anything else that may be causing it. Any ideas?
Changing the fuel lines to steel braided since I am changing the fuel pump to high volume, just in case. Just changing little things now that since in the future other mods will be added. Just kind of want to get ahead of the game.

Possibly a bad fuel injector(s), though do the tune-up first with everything else stock and then check to see if she runs right. Then I would hook up a FP gauge at the rail and shut the car off, it should maintain pressure for a good while. If it doesnt, have those injectors sent to CruzinPerformance for service, or buy new FMS #24s.
Re: Chamber volume for 1985 Corvette Heads (vader86)
Thanks, Vader. Bought the 70 cc Edelbrock Performer Aluminum heads with the valve spring upgrade to allow for higher lift for possible future camshaft upgrade. Also went with 8.8mm wires, Accel Super Coil and Distributor cap with the cutaway TPI Coil Plate. Also bought a fuel pressure gauge. I will check the fuel pressure after the heads and ignition project before doing fuel lines and such. Thanks for the advice and will keep you posted. :hurray:
Re: Chamber volume for 1985 Corvette Heads (CFOHO)
Dont get the power coupler! Its just a peice of cheap rubber. Ive had mine for less than a year on my 85, and the ends are taped cause they split, and the whole thing is checked with dryrot cracks! im looking to get an original accordian type to put on, I threw the original away " I had the best on it"...
