And your GTP costs how much?? A little more than the 9-11k going rate for a fine example of a '90 or '91. I thought we were comparing a '90 vette to a '92 and not an L98 (with who knows how crummy of a driver) to a modded new car? Just making sure we weren't a little off track here :jester Nice Pontiac BTW! :yesnod:

Yeah, we got a bit off track indeed....

Actually, I got the GTP for a steal! I bought it in July of 2002 with just over 20,000 miles, for $17,000 even out the door (that's what I wrote the check for, that price included taxes, license, reg, etc....which here in Cali comes to about $2K.... :mad

Nahhhh....I'm not comparing a most likely stock L98 to a modded SUPERCHARGED car...   ....just responding to the "unbeatable" comment...

And just FYI....the GTP is my daily driver. Damn fun daily driver at that, and it gets 33+ mpg (even with the mods) on the highway if I keep my foot out of it. I absolutely love the car, and highly recommend one to others...

But back to the point.....the L98 powered vettes sound right up my alley. I really didn't realize the potential of the L98....I really appreciate the advice. I got more than I had even hoped for.....

 dude relax, he started the thread and is the one who's going to buy the vette. Since it's his money, he can compare what he wants.

This brings up a good point though. Had he raced a 6sp LT-1 w/ his 300HP GTP, he would have lost bad!!!!

(just had to throw in props for the LT, baby!)

Actually, I have raced one in my GTP.....and yes, I did lose......

But bad? Define bad......In my case, just a bit less than 2 cars over the 1/4 mile.....

And that's one of the reasons for my post. I'm well aware of what LT1's can do.....I was just clueless about L98's......

Oh, and just in case anyone didn't notice...it's not like I'm a vette newbie or anything......reread my first post and/or check my sig.....I've got an '02 also....and yes, LS1's aren't bad.....

Oh...but speaking of funny...that's what an LS1 Camaro did to the GTP on the freeway.......I really don't know what I was thinking......

But bad? Define bad......
Bad
adj. worse, (wûrs) worst (wûrst)

1. Not achieving an adequate standard; poor: a bad concert.
Evil; sinful.

2. When 2 cars race and one overtakes the other by 2 cars or more in the quarter mile.

I had a ZZ4 crate engine outfitted with a tuned port style intake from First Injection. The engine had a full TEC-3 engine management system from Electromotive (EFI & DIS). On the stock ZZ4 with shorty headers, this engine made around 470 lb-ft at 3600rpm and about 365HP at 5200. Stock rating on the engine with single plane intake and carb and headers is 355HP/405lb-ft.

The torque curve is nuts with this intake, and only falls off slightly at the top. Runner diameters are about 1.75", so flow is not a problem at this power level. Check out http://www.firstinjections.com

I had a mildly modded 90 6 speed. It ran 13.5s at 105 - 106mph on street tires. Stock heads, cam. It had exhaust and the lower intake manifold and that was pretty much it. That, and the usual free stuff. The early zf6 were rated at 450 lbs of ttrq where as the later were at 400. Its pretty easy to get low 12s with heads/cam/intake out of the L98. A new shortblock from GM is only $1300.

I have a 85 (l98) with all the bolt ons and I left a GTP so far back on the highway a few weeks ago that it could not even be measured in car lengths. By the way my car needs a little work.
