Default Can you have "codes" without the "SYS" light

 My 88 has never displayed a code of any sort (not bragging) yet I know it is running extremely rich, MPG is down to 17

I say it hasn't thrown a code, what I mean is SYS light has never come on!

Should I still check for codes?

Thanks :D

I'd check for codes since the ECM can set a "soft' code and you may not catch it. The SYS light will go on due to an intermittent fault but will go out after 10 seconds.

---Unless it is hooked up to your e-brake handle :jester :p: :p: :p:

 Does Mid America have a harness to hook it up to Emergency Brake handle?

That would give me a better "hands on" feeling

Happy new Year!

Check with MAD ...as screwed up as those folks are, they'll probably try and sell you a e-brake harness that plugs into your seats so it will launch you through the windshield when applied. :D

Happy New Year too. :seeya

You can simply check for codes by jumpering the A, and B pins on the ALDL. I use a paper clip for this. Have been for 8 years now, and it works great. By jumpering these two pins the fan will come on and any codes the ECM has seen, whether displayed or not will be flashed. The SYS light will flash say 3 quick times then pause, then flash 3 more quick times. This is a code 33. It will flash each code 3 times then move on to the next if there is one. If there are no codes pressent then it will blink a code 12.
