I posted a couple of weeks ago and didn't get much response. I picked up a solid targa on ebay pretty cheap. I knew it needed some repair. It looks like it has been dropped on the front edge and is cracked where the trim attaches. It is in one piece and the trim is good, you can just wiggle the trim and the paint is chipped some. I need some kind of epoxy or something that will flow into the crack and set up. If I could use something thin enough to work in a syringe of some kind, I think it would work. I guess the top is made of the same material as the rest of the body (smc). Any suggestions as to what will work.
I'm not sure of this, but it sounds as though you are on the right track. I would think you could use a two part epoxy as found in the part stores. The way those epoxys apply lend themselves well to the type of repair you are contemplating. Then, you can just sand, paint, and go.
Bondo also makes a pretty good epoxy for this. I actually bought some to refurb some nicks in my valve covers. The stuff hardens quickly and sands and paints well. It comes in an orange tube, and it only costs $2.00 at Autozone.
I recently repaired a long crack in my windshield header trip piece with some JB Weld from AutoZone.
This stuff would work well for repairing/rebuilding trim pieces but if you have a problem in the area of the top hold-down bracket I'd be very careful to get it repaired very securely.
