Default 92 LT1 Build up

I broke it! So know I need to rebuild. Looking at making a 383 stroker with a 92 LT1. I have already had the heads ported and polished now I am looking at what is needed to get the rest done. Does anyone know what mods I need to do to the ECM? Will the stock injectors be enough or should I put bigger ones in with a 52mm or 58mm throttle body? Any help would be appreciated.

The chip in the ECM will require reprogramming. You should probably go to 30 lbs injectors. A 52mm throttle body is also suggested. You should also put a different cam in so you can take advantage of the extra cubic inches. I did all of the mods I mentioned when I built my 92 383. I also got all the programming equipment so I could do my on chips. Hope this helps. Cheers!!

there are some good deals on the net for the rotating assembly... just compare prices.

Ed Wright, and a number of others, can burn you a chip.

I don't think you will need more than a 52mm throttle body... Also, rolling rockers are required!

I am not sure what injectors to use... perhaps the FMS 24#?

others that know what to do will chime in!!!

Decide right now if you plan on a supercharger or nitrous system. That will determine your piston requirements and/or compression ratio.
There are a few ways to go about this as well. Scoggins Dickey is selling a 383 stroker already done for like $4300 or so. Not a screaming deal, but not a rip off. Depends on the machine work and if you are going to do your own assembly.
Your budget will determine which direction you really go. $3K on the lowlow side and $15K goes extreme, or real near it.

Bill, like Goody inferred,"how much money do you want to spend?" Here's a list of things to think about--- cam, roller rockers, waterpump, throttle body, optispark, what exhaust, cats or no cats, is your drive train going to be able to handle the higher torque from a stroker? If the budget is fairly large, think about a 396. :steering:

A 52MM TB is probably more than adequate for your new 383. Unless you are planning on high RPM HP and a large cam with big ported heads then a 58MM would be a better choice. Just remember bigger is not always better in this case and also remember that GM uses the very same 48MM TB on their 502 RAMJET engine that makes 510Hp and over 560FT/LBs of torque.

For injectors I would stay with no larger than 24lb units. I am pretty sure that yours are 21s now in the car. While they will work fine the only concern would be high duty cycle numbers at the upper RPMs. There again it all depends on how radical of a build you are going to do. If you are doing mildly ported heads and a cam around the LT4 HOT cam size then your stock injectors would work fine. The stock eliminator class drag racers running into the 10's are using stock size injectors.

As for ECM changes to get the most out of your new engine you will need a new prom. Especially when going to a larger cam and injectors.

Thanks for the input, I am looking at 450hp at the back tires. I want to keep it streetable and yet have some power for when I need it. 11.99 in the quarter would be the area I would be shooting for. A new cam is going in I haven't decided the spec's yet.

450 rwhp is a pretty high goal for a streetable 383 LT1.

Good Luck with your buildup.

You might be asking for a bit much there with a 383, and still being streetable. However, I don't think you need anywhere near that amount of horsepower to hit 11's either. I had a friend with a 396 running a pretty big cam that wasn't very streetable, and he was putting 420 to the rear wheel with that combo.

450 at the wheels is about 530 at the engine. Going to be hard to keep that streetable.

Bryan, yea, it's a stock unit that was bored by David K. He did a great job. Here's what I think I'm going to use when I install some AFR LT4 heads. It has built in NOS passages and is twin 58s.
