Hey guys..>Well Im having problems with my 87 auto. Last night I went over to my car to start her up, the car started up like normal for about two seconds then it stalled, I couldnt even put it in gear. I tried her again and she started up fine (didnt pump the gas upon start-up) and a second or two later she turned on then stalled. I tried again and she came up to idle, bogged down to about 300rpm then to about 500 rpm then she stalled. I tried again and even tried to give it gas but did the same, the car idled for about a second then cut out. I tried for about 10 minutes and finally the battery gave out. I had the battery charged and tried 2 more times with the same result :banghead: I dont know what is wrong, giving it gas gives the same result. The car starts fine, like normal for about a second or two, then it stalls. Some of the times the rpms tried to keep at idle but it always stalled shortly. This really sucks because I really needed the car to go house hunting. I really dont know what is going on and any clues or suggestions would help greatly :smash:

If you can check fuel pressure.Should be 38 to43, lower than 35 may be trouble. Can you check for spark? If it has both it should run. Good Luck. My 87 runs but right now just barely.

hah! didnt you know that when you go shopping for something you should use a normal car? people will see you car and go.. "ah, theres money in them jeans, better not let the price fall."
Re: My car is having problems...help-SOS (neverendingproject)
Kind of sounds like a fuel problem. You need to check your fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. (key on, engine off first and then with engine running) I'm thinking a fuel filter or the pump. Just guesses without knowing your pressure tho.

 Well I'll try to take the bus then...
Thanks for the responses guys. Its key I get the fuel pressure checked. I was also suspecting a fuel delivery problem. I'll try to check the pressure as soon as I can get the gauge. I was thinking though, If the fuel pump was bad would the car keep turning over for 15 minutes? I thought that if the pump went bad the car wouldnt turn over at all, even for a second or two like in my case. Is there relays or fuses that might also cause this...
Re: My car is having problems...help-SOS (2nd2SEX)
There is the oil pressure switch but I believe they are wired in parallel with the pump. And yes, the pump can be bad and still deliver enough pressure to get it started. It may not be able to keep the pressure up enough to keep it running. A pressure check will give the definitive answer.
Re: My car is having problems...help-SOS (ittlfly)
A fuel filter might be the culprit. I haven't had one clog up on the Vette yet, but I've had the same problem in my college car (Rusted Mazda 323, don't laugh, it got me where I needed to go most of the time. :) )
Re: My car is having problems...help-SOS (2nd2SEX)
I had similar probs. Turned out to be that little 3 prong plug that the fuel pump plugs into inside the tank. It had melted. I eliminated the plug and soldered the wires to the prongs and everything works great.
