Default Engine Replacement Help

Forum members,

My engine in my 85 is on its last legs and I am looking at upgrading. I am looking for a high quality essentially the same, but with Vortec heads TPI setup. Scoggin Dickey Performance had a nice engine at:
http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...=1577&pid=9009
357HP, 415lbft
9.6:1
$3400

Is there a better deal out there with similar performance numbers. I definitely want to go to the vortec heads due to the added power and fuel economy (maybe it would make up for the heavier foot!)

I am basically desiring to stay with compression from 8.5 to 9.5 and have a monster amount of torque. In addition, I do not want to increase the bore size significantly and pick up extra cubes.

What other options do you guys and gals know of?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks
Richard

Thats a nice crate motor and not too bad priced either.Notice they say it makes 357 HP @ 4200 rpms? Thats a low peak in the rpm band which leads me to believe that this engine is capable or makes closer to 380-400HP if you had a different intake set up like a carb or miniram. The TPI is what limts the Peak HP but wow, thats still pretty good for a TPI set up.WOuld be excellent for the street driven car.The torque from that motor is going to fry your tires into oblivion with super ease.If you reuse the factory exhaust manifolds,it wont make that HP number but would still be an impressive torque monster.

If theres a better deal out there,I dont know, havent browsed the catalogs or looked online for a while.Im sure someone will point more directions for ya to compare.

Just be sure its a legal swap if you have emissions and inspections done where you live.Dont want to spend all that money and find out they wont pass it.

For the deal of the month, if not year, go here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=727070. Right on our own forum. That HAS to be everything you're looking for...and more, at half the price. I don't know, and therefore can't vouch for the seller, but I'd jump all over this if I were in your position. Good luck, and...
