Default when eliminating polution controls.....

are there any circuits that must remain connected, i have removed all of my polution control stuff, like the air pump, cats, etc.
but am having a hard time tuning, i have a custom chip that was programed for my mods, i'm wondering if i should of left some circuits connected, or am i just thinking too hard now?

greg

Air pump should be ok, the egr heat switch will throw a code but shuld not affect tuning other than you're losing the cooling effect it provides.

the chip is programed to know about both the air pump and the egr :yesnod:

I knew the ecm controlled the activation of the pump, didn't think it had any feedback though.

Sorry, seems I give you some bad info...

Even with the stock chip, unplugging the smog pump and associated plug ins and etc should not have any effect at all.If the egr is turned off in the chip, then that shouldnt be a problem either. When you say youre having tuning problems, either the chip was burned wrong for your mods and needs tweaking or you need to find out whats going on.Can you elaborate whats wrong with the car so far?Drivability problems?Btw,i seen your signature and the 58MM TB is too large for your engine.Heck it would probably feel better and run great with the stock unit.It will make the car feel a little sluggish off the line in many cases.
I tried a 58,a 52 and went back to stock. It ran so much better that way. Also be sure you dont have vacuum leaks either.

i planned on adding a supercharger in the future, so i didn't want to buy the TB twice, plus it will only flow so much anyways because it still has to flow through a resrictive MAF first :yesnod:

or am i out to lunch on this ?
the guy who burned my chip , and tunes these things regularly said it would be ok

There is no direct feedback from the air pump to the ECM. The EGR feedback is just there for throwing a code. (Depends on what year your running.) You did say MAF, and it looks like and 86. Unless you have done some major top end or CuIn mods,... You don't need a 58mm TB, even w/ a SC.

Do things smooth out when it goes into closed loop (CL)? Watching your SES light and using the paper-clip,... is it running rich or lean?

Have you put a scan tool in it yet?
