Default Rear defroster

1986 coupe. Rear defroster doesn't get warm now. Checked and there is current all the way across the grid, at every junction on the glass and at several random midpoints of the strips. Connections on struts are good. The light is on at the control. Ground is good. Any ideas as to why this little jewel isn't working? Don't think heated mirror function is working either.

Defroster and heated mirrors usually share the same fuse... check that first.

Are you measuring current or continunity?

If current, how are you measuring it?

If continuity, then I agree - check the fuse.

I just used a lighted 12 volt tester and it would light up well and scream, telling me there was plenty of juice. No, I did not put a meter on it to measure the exact current, but there is power in the circuit running through the back glass. And if there is, then why won't it melt the ice in the morning?Inquiring minds.....

I have a 91 with with the same exact problem. I have the heated mirrors which work fine, and also rules out the fuse. The rear defroster has voltage at the grid on the glass(measured with voltmeter) still does not defrost. I don't know what to do to fix it. I'd like some ideas also.

You could pull the two connectors on either support strut and clean them.

If contact resistance is too high it could still provide voltage but limit current.
