HELP!!! Starting problems... vats?
My car wouldnt start this mid morning when I needed to run an appointment. Everything is working fine now. It starts up no problem. But for an hour it wouldnt start. Turning the key would turn on the dash lights and everything, there would be a quiet bubbling whoosh like sound coming from the rear right side. Im guessing its some problem with vats, but I have no idea what can be done.

I would check battery connections neg and pos. If ok, I suspect starter solenoid is on it's last legs. You can bet it will happen again no matter what the cause. Your car has given you fair warning. Fix it (preferrable) or get it fixed cause it will fail at the worst possible time/place if you have my kind of luck. This doesn't sound lie a vats problem to me. :cheers:

It is not the starter. I replaced that bitch about 4 months ago in the heat of summer. I checked the battery and its not that. Battery is good.

Does the SECURITY light flash when you try to crank? If so it's probably VATS.
Best case, try cleaning your key w/ rubbing alcohol, try a spare key, or get a new copy. Worst case, you may need to replace your ignition lock cylinder.

It could also be the clutch safety switch (gear selector switch if automatic). Vats resets in 4 minutes. Poor battery connection will also have this symptom. Remove battery cables (neg first), clean the lugs and batt posts and replace(neg last).
