I had a recent accident with my car and had a blow out. Upon impact it took a 1" chunk out the rim where it seats the tire. Is this repairable by any means or am i looking for a new rim. I still have the original chunk that came out. THanks
I have had alloy rims on other cars repaired by wheel shops specializing in that type of repair. However, if you have comprehensive insurance coverage, it may cover replacement of the rim and tire (I was able to do this on another car where I blew 2 tires and damaged the rims when I was forced into a curb by traffic situation).
there is a shop in PA that does wheel repair... Ye Olde Wheel Shoppe or something like that. They advertize in the back of Autoweek ALL the time.
I thought the Ye olde wheel shop was in MD, but I've heard they do good work. Its like 1 hour to 1.5 hour drive from Northern Virginia. I looked them up once.
The one in PA is Wheel Collision Center, http://www.wheelcollision.com. There is also a very reputable place here outside of Cleveland called BlackBurn Industries (no web site). If you need the number, let me know and I'll look it up for you.
I would never try repairing severe damage like that; too much could go wrong going down the freeway at 80mph.
If its some version of a standard vette wheel- a new one from AFS is under $200. I'm sure you could find one on the forum also. The wheel repair is going to run at least $80 plus shipping both ways.
