Default Distributor Cap choice for L98?

Im on a tight budget and undecided to get a/c delco or an aftermarket distributor cap.My current cap is an aftermarket,It came from hypertech and its self destructing now.The inside contacts are bad/worn and etc so I want to get a new cap,but want one thats reliable and long lasting.

What worked for you and what seems to have held up the longest?
Im leaning towards the a/c delco since Ive never really had a problem with those but want to get my moneys worth.I was looking at accel caps but dont know whats superior about them except the price tag compared to others.

Thanks!
:)

I've never had a problem with my $13 Conrad brass cap & rotor set from autozone. 6300+ RPM no problem. Its a purdy red too. :D

When I get around to changing mine, I plan to go with an Accel (tan) unit.

Hey guys,
I was browsing napa, autozone and etc earlier and autozone shows the conrad cap and rotor kit for 25 bucks. How did you get yours that cheap?

Jake,
I was leaning towards accel but wasnt sure what was supposed to be better for the money. The cheapest autozone has for 15 bucks is the WELLS cap and im unsure about those brands.Never trusted another ignition part from Wells after a few problems with trying them out on other cars before.

The HyperTech coil/cap/rotor come as a package from Summit for ~$70, remember to factor in all the needed parts when price shopping.

Do you have a pepboys nearby? I have both within 3/4 mile of each other so they have really competitive prices.

Scorp,
No peppy boyz near me...we only have an autozone and a napa here...would have to drive really far to find another store.Dont know if Bowling Green has a peppy Boyz or not and would be a drive just for that.

65,
Thanks for the reminder.I only need a cap and rotor.I did buy my Hypertech coil, cap, rotor from summit some years back and it was a great bargain.
I also saved my old coil too for testing along with the hypertech one.

I use Accel, for the brass contacts. The"purdy red" ones mentioned above probably work just as well. What do you gap your plugs at with that coil?

I've had bad luck with Accel caps. Two of them had bad corrosion build ups on one of the towers. Use liberal tune-up grease on the towers/boots if you use this cap and check it every so often.
I have seen some clear ones thru summit. You could time your dist much easier with one and a lightshow at night

I like Standard's Blue Streak my self. Brass contacts and very affordable. Can be bought at most independant stores and Carquest. May have to be ordered, but worth the day or to wait. Get a rotor to match.

All of NAPAs ignition parts are made by ECHLIN out of Branford,Conn. I have used them for years and they are currently on my 89 L98. Both cap and rotor are brass contacts and have 1 year warranty.I believe I paid around 25.00 plus tax. I highly recommend them.Good Luck!

I am sure there are many good brands of caps available. I would price a GM part from Chris and compare to another brand you are interetested in. Go with the best price. Keep her between the ditches!!! :)
