I'm not sure if having the wheels off would help but spinning both wheels and observing how they stop when brakes are applied lightly might turn up some caliper sticking.

Can they be checked for sticking by applying the brakes and observing their movement with the wheels off?

:confused: Correct me if I'm wrong, but he only wanted to remove the wheels, not the rotors. So how could the pistons pop out of the calipers if they are still in place? Maybe I'm getting dense. :D

Or perhaps I wasn't clear enough above.
What I had in mind was to jack the front axle, spin the two front wheels (with wheels on the axles) and watch how the wheels come to a stop as someone lightly applies the brakes.
If one wheel repeatedly seems to stop sooner, spin that one a little harder; if it still stops sooner then that caliper is is hanging up, possibly due to sticking pistons.
