the first is the '88 roller 350 from my Camaro
the second is a pre-86 block
Can I use the stock oil pan on either of those motors?
If not, what do I need?
No, you'll need a different oil pan for the 2 blocks. The '88 Camaro block is a 1-piece rear main seal block, which has a different oil-pan than the pre-'86 block. If memory serves, the '86 is a 1-piece rear main block, so if you use the Camaro motor, you're good on the pan. If you use the older block, you need a different pan.
a generic replacement pan? or do corvettes take special pans?
Corvette's have less ground clearance under the motor than most Chevy's. You're looking for a pan with a 7" deep sump. If you're looking aftermarket, Canton and Moroso both make 7" deep sump pans that will work. Canton lists theirs as a Vette pan, and they charge accordingly ($325 or so...rediculous for a wet sump pan), but it's a good pan.
The lowest price I know of on the Canton Corvette Road Race pan is $260, if that helps. Forum member "No Go" found that price, I gave like $290 directly thru Canton.
I've installed a Canton Pan on mine while the car is down for cylinder head work. As Superlund alluded to, No Go found a place that has a decent price. Here's the link... http://www.fullthrottleraceparts.com/index.htm
It's a very high quality pan. I did have to do some very minor trimming of the windage tray (it unbolts from the pan so not a big deal) to clear the oil pump & pickup. I wrestled with it for 3 hours over two days before doing that.
In addition to the pan, you have to buy a new oil pump pickup as well. Total for me for the pan, pickup, and shipping to St. Louis was ~$310
