Last evening I picked up my babe (the vette) from the shop after mods installed (see sig).
All I can say is that my freakin' jaw dropped
For those that have been saying that especially mid-range torque is vastly improved - you aren't kidding! The exhaust mod has been a MAJOR kick in the pants for my L98 :D
It revs a helluva lot faster - and somewhat higher. The throttle response is dead-on quick right off from the "line" (thanks to TPS voltage upped to .65v), and base timing was adjusted to 8 degrees.
The exhaust note is even lower now, and it sounds mean as hell. The Magnaflows never sounded so sweet. And I definitely found out that care must be taken in situations where I don't want the tires spinning & smoking.
My mechanic said the install went very well. Some custom bends and custom piping to main cat inlets/outlets (main cat isn't stock length, its very small at 9" body length and very high flowing), and all is welded up for an airtight fit.
The fit and finish of the HPC coated Hookers is top-notch and everything is clean, looks great! A top-flight job was done by a mechanic I trust implicitly,
he's very **** about doing the best job possible. He would call me from time to time to run down to the shop just to look at the various stages of the install, and to explain everything in detail. I hope to get some pics soon.
I'm gonna have some great fun with this thing. I can't wait for the next upgrade in March (see sig), banging thru the gears and going sideways down the street :hurray:   :chevy
My mechanic shaved off 5 hours of labor, free of charge. He will be getting a case of Guinness beer from me tomorrow :D
There you are Don! Quit hiding and join the party here on the Forum once in awhile :jester
Low end torque not only was retained, from what I can feel it seemed to go up! This apparent "feel" might possibly be due to a combination of the TPS adjustment and the bump up in base timing. I'm also suspecting that having the ZF-6 doesn't hurt either. Thank god I have one
Awesome, dude! It makes a big difference when the clearance volume is filled with air/fuel mix instead of exhaust, doesn't it? Many people are quite surprised by the extra pull. Good luck with your spring selection. There are some cam lobe series that will work with stock-type springs, like Crane HR-3. http://www.cranecams.com/lobemaster/...icroll.htm#HR3
The lift ain't too great, but this series is very snappy off the seat. This makes an excellent exhaust series for many aftermarket heads, too.

Thanks, Rockin' Rod. After alot more head banging and headaches, I've made a final decision and am going with the whole LT4 HOT cam kit - as is - after all. Everything considered, for my purposes (street only), I won't ntoice much difference vs. a most optimum setup anyway. It'll be intalled at 4* advance, and a chip burned accordingly, fule pressure & base timing adjusted in concert. Perfect? Nope. Pretty damn good? Yup. Thats good enough for me....
You are thinking of installing the Hotcam at 104/120 ILCA/ELCA? That doesn't sound right. I would install it at 108/116 like it is ground with your long-runner intake. I wonder how much a cam grinder would charge to regrind the HotCam exhaust lobes to 218 or 220. That Crane HR-3 220 lobe ground over the Hotcam's lazy 228 lobe would turn the Hotcam into a good street cam for the L98. It would become 218/220 on 108/116 ILCA/ELCA (an elcheapo version of the LPE 219/219 cam), and the engine would run cooler than with the Hotcam (better lowend and midrange, too). I'm always thinkin'.
FYI,,,I just paid $125 to have http://www.bulletcams.com regrind my cam. Oh yeah from a 225/233 w/541/525 lift to a 233/233 576/576,,, but my LS had to stay the same at 112.
Sounds good doesn't it. :D Omigod yes! I'm loving it
The Hooker Y pipe had zero problems with fitment. I suspect its because I have a manula tranny.
Does the Hooker Y pipe fit an auto trans. car? Anyone out there have one installed with an auto. and if so, how much did you have to "modify" it? Thanks
