All of my interior lights blink (go on and off). They do it every time I drive the car, sometimes more often then others.
I get in the car shut the door, wait for the lights to go off. Start the car, no problem, Foot on the brake, no problem, poopie to drive, no problem, start moving the car and the lights blink until I am up to about 20mph, they will then remain off for awhile but ocassionaly start blinking. :mad
When it is colder (20 degress) They will blink all the time. I have looked at the switches and they seem to work correctly when the car is sitting still. When I go over a bump in the road they will blink, sometimes but not always.
I am thinking I either have a bad switch or a problem in the ECM. How can I identify the problem?
My Corvette hasn't done it, but my Camaro did at one point. It turned out to be the hatch didn't close enough, so the light switch was intermittent. Mostly when the car bounced the light would flicker. I adjusted the switch and it solved the problem.
My first guess would be with one of the switches. Does the red "Door Ajar" light come (or blink) on when the lights flicker? If not I would start with the rear hatch switch. Mine used to do the same thing until I narrowed it down to this.
I beleive all I had to do was adjust it. If you take off the cover that sorrounds it you can see what I mean.
:iagree: with all mentioned to this point, but another thing to consider is that you might have some loose wires on one of the switches and taping or further diagnosing the switch itself would not uncover the electrical gremlin.
I would recommend pulling the switches and examining them if you tested them with the tape method and had no luck.
I had the same problum with my 91 I rolled up some paper and shut it in the doors one at a time to see if would stop blinking found it to be the passenger side door the switches my look ok but you need to check them..bet it's a door switch.
Note that the door ajar light will not come on with the switch problem. I've been through two hatch switches already, I unplugged it for now since I don't feel like getting a third. You can unmplug the hatch switch and still have full capabilities as far as the alarm goes.
Watch this video, note how when the car flexes(such as through turns and stuff) that the interior lights will blink.
If your car is behaving as mine was, just unplug the hatch switch, if that works, you know you need to buy a new one, if not then the door switches are the culprit,
You guys were right.... the problem is the hatch switch. I have jammed some paper in the switch to make a solid contact and no problems. Even going out of the driveway no blinking. :D
Mr. Mojo, nice video. Looks like the Blue Ridge parkway.
This weekend I will adjust the switch, buy a new one or disconnect.
Thanks for everyones help. You guys are great. :hurray:
:hurray: :hurray:
I had a similar problem on my 93. The lites would flicker on when i hit a bump or pulled into a driveway which made the car FLEX. I found out that it was my passenger door pin. I put a spacer behind the switch to make it extend out further. No more problem.
